Stewardship – It’s a Gift!

Our Ministries, Our Church, Our Time, Talent and Treasure!
GROWING IN FAITH TOGETHER — GIFT

This year, we have chosen the theme “Growing in Faith Together – GIFT” for our annual stewardship drive. You are truly a GIFT to our Holy Redeemer congregation! You represent what is best about Holy Redeemer, our joyful relationships with God and one another. Each of us in our own way come together to make Holy Redeemer what it is: rooted in God’s grace and growing in faith together. What a GIFT that is!

Through your faithful giving of time, talent, and treasure to the ministries of our church you have made a difference in the lives of people near and far. From worship services to children and adults growing in our faith together to world missions through the ELCA, we enrich the lives of countless people around the globe. Each life touched by the ministries of Holy Redeemer is a shining example of God’s love and grace, lived out daily. You make all of this possible!

Please keep an eye out at church on Sundays for the stewardship packets. The packets will be on the table in the back of the sanctuary. Pick one up and take a look. We are asking that you challenge yourself to give in a regular and disciplined way. I promise you won’t regret it. God has blessed us all and our annual stewardship campaign is an important and vital way to give back – not just to our church, our community, but to God and our mission to be an inclusive community by reaching out to all, sharing the word of God in service and love, and encouraging, nurturing, and empowering all for ministry.

My prayer is that you will be with us during the remaining weeks of our Journey Grow in Faith Together, that you are making plans now to attend church on Commitment Sunday, October 21. Please take time to prayerfully discern your gifts for this coming year. Please return the Stewardship commitment card either via mail, the collection basket or securely online on our website.

Now we invite you to pray and give thanks for all of the ways this congregation blesses you, our members and our community.

Thank you!

Pastor’s Message

Pastor Barbara Caine

It’s June and graduations abound! It’s a time to both look forward and look back. Nick M-S is graduating from college and Katie and Ellie L and Amanda K are graduating from high school this year. It seems impossible that those three little kids I met when

I came here 13 years ago are now a grown man and three young women who are stepping out into a whole new world, prepared for their next steps. Their parents are proud of their hard work and persistence in attaining their goals. They are ready to change the world in their own way.

Jesus came as a baby, became a little kid, prepared to leave home and set out on a three-year ministry that changed the world. We, as the church, empowered by the Holy Spirit, are called to do the same. We have gifts from those who came before us, gifts of property and buildings, and gifts of faith, handed down for generation upon generation. Just as Nick, Katie, Ellie, and Amanda are entering a new life challenge, we, as a church, are entering a new life challenge and supported by the gifts we’ve been given as we are continually empowered by the Holy Spirit.

As we move into a new phase as a church, let’s look forward and look back. Let’s look back to consider what worked and what didn’t. Let’s look forward to build on our strengths and plan for a ministry that will move hearts in this new era. This is an era that needs God’s love and grace as much as any. Let’s look forward to how we can share that grace and love in concrete ways and change the world!

In Christ,
Pastor Barbara

Easter! A time of growth!

Pastor Barbara

Easter! A time of growth!

Easter! A time to enjoy God’s creation as trees blossom and flowers bloom!

Easter! A time to look at the person God is bringing to blossom within us!

So often, in our lives, we focus on our past failures, our past mistakes – our past selves. It’s pretty human, and, sometimes, leads us to consider new behaviors. The problem arises when we decide to move from simply considering new behaviors to actually living into new behaviors! It’s easy to get discouraged, to lose faith in ourselves, and to fall back into the same old ruts. Sometimes we are so focused on pummeling ourselves that we forget just who we are.

That’s when we need to remember that we are Easter people. (Did you notice that I left off the exclamation point?) So, Pastor, what are you getting at? Well, Easter people’s lives are not easy lives to live. Let me give you a tiny example of what I mean. Right now, there is so much turmoil, pain, and suffering in the world that I want to turn off the news, close my eyes, and listen to my favorite utopian fantasy books on Audible. Escaping into fantasy literature is an old rut of mine, and very deep.

A long time ago, a friend, one of those amazing friends that God gives you in your lives, questioned my rut. She challenged me to consider the fact that Christ had called me to be something more that an escapee from my own life. Through the Holy Spirit’s intervention in her life and mine, and many other loving folks, I was able to begin to face my life. It wasn’t easy, and I had ups and downs in my commitment to live as an Easter person. It wasn’t easy, but in time my life got better. It wasn’t easy, not sunshine, lollipops, and rainbows, for sure, but God helped me find a true sense of purpose, a new way of loving, and a different direction to climb out of that rut. Did I say it wasn’t easy?

Today, when I start to slip into that rut and focus on past failures, past mistakes and my past self, I try not to slip back. Today, because I’ve walked with the Holy Spirit a long time, it’s easier than it used to be (except when it’s harder!). When I consider new behaviors, I know I need to look up from that rut, stop the pummeling, and listen to the Holy Spirit’s call, to Easter’s call, to the call of love.

Easter! A time to look at the person God is bringing to blossom within us and allow that person to bloom!

Happy Easter! (It’s still Easter until May 20th!)

In Christ,
Pastor Barbara
